For Purpose Consulting

Nonprofit is a tax status, not a business model.

Making an impact since 2021.

Bill Sundahl founded Z&W Unlimited, For Purpose Consulting to serve along side organizations working to make real social impact.

Why Z&W? Those are his daughter's initials. While building this company, he knew that naming it after his kids would serve as a constant reminder that what we choose to do with our time on this earth is important and what we leave behind matters.

Why do we do this?

Nonprofits have been filling the gaps in our society for well over a century, toiling away in the spaces between - where the market sees no financial benefit, and the government has either no way or will to provide the needed services.

This is where we show up, step up and stand out.

If not us then who?

What do we do?

Our areas of practice include fundraising, operational resilience, event strategy and planning, and training. We serve many kinds of organizations, but our focus is on community media, public media, nonprofit news and arts organizations.

Where do we do it?

We are headquartered in the Kansas City metro area and we are just as proud to support our Midwest partners as our clients in Silicon Valley and rural Florida.

Areas of Practice.

Fundraising Operations Evaluation & Support

Strong Roots. That is what we all need to grow to be sustainable and stable enough to weather the inevitable issues that all organizations face.

Whether you're a startup or an established organization, having an experienced professional take an impartial look can be a great benefit. These are all important things, but which are the most important?

  • Effective board reporting.

  • Budgeting by departments.

  • Donor management software.

  • Internal communication systems.

  • Financial systems and expense tracking.

  • Realistic projections for the future.

  • Donor stewardship systems.

  • Staffing & succession planning.

Let our experience help you maximize your impact.

Fundraising Program Evaluation & Support

"But we have always done it that way." We have all heard it, but unfortunately, that is not a strategy.

  • Does this program align with our mission?

  • Should we focus more on major donors, membership, grants or corporate?

  • What skills are needed in the people doing this work?

  • Is this even a sustainable program?

  • Does this benefit our organization directly or indirectly?

  • Will I be able to stick to my budget?

  • Can we even do this with the restricted funding from the grant?

  • How have we spent the grant funding for this program?

These are most likely not your questions, but making the time to think through your programs is exactly what it take to maintain effectiveness.

Let our experience help you maximize your impact.

Event Evaluation, Planning & Support

It boils down to this: the decision to spend time here is a decision to not do something else. Events take a lot of energy and time to produce effectively. If you are to be good stewards of your support, they must be worth the effort.

  • Is this a fundraiser, friendraiser, marketing effort, or programming?

  • Do we know who the intended audience is for our event?

  • Are we capitalizing on the fact that we have all these people who love what we do standing right in front of us?

  • Lots of people came last time; what happened?

  • Did we account for the staff time in this budget?

  • Could this be virtual instead?

  • Is this a staff or volunteer task?

If you want to know if it is possible to produce events that meet their goals with your team, these are just a few to get started.

Let our experience help you maximize your impact.

Non Commercial Media Training & Support

Effective and efficient nonprofit media organizations require the right skills in the hands of the right people and knowing what tools are at their disposal.

  • Training: Pitching on-air, write compelling underwriting scripts, sponsored content, volunteers and board member onboarding.

  • Platforms: Explore strategies in broadcast, podcasting, social media and newsletters. Which are right for your programs or public message?

  • Storytelling: Craft and deliver your message effectively to your target audiences.

  • Engage: Create content that resonates with your audience.

  • Amplify: Increase awareness of your work and of those you serve.

  • Showcase: Highlight your achievements and share your insights with audience, peers and funders.

  • Compliance: Understand FCC regulations. When and how they affect your organization?
